He thrived on giving of himself to bring joy to others, helping when he could, and sometimes mad at himself when he couldn't. Although she very much enjoyed just being at home, as there were many weekly visitors, she did travel to Germany and it was one of the highlights of her life. Other traveling she enjoyed were various trips to Billings, MT and a special trip to Branson, MO. Isabelle was born July 23, 1935 in Mandan ND, the first of 9 children born to Frank and Alfreda Haider. She was raised and educated in St. Anthony.
Jake developed a special place in his heart for special needs individuals when he worked for KAYD. He would talk about the gifts some of his clients had, impressing him with the fact that all people had value. He also worked in the food industry, most recently at Stage Stop in Mandan, North Dakota. He brought many smiles to many people there. Joe was an avid sports fan , quite a golf enthusiast, and never passed up a good game of pinochle or a trip to the casino, but his real passions were his family, friends, and teaching. He was at home in his classroom and worked endlessly to help his students achieve their goals and potential.

Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Micki Jo; his parents; brothers Steve, Mike, and Bobby Ellefson; and sister Julie Daley. During his career Joe received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce 2018 Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Joe loved learning and pursued higher education throughout his life, both as a professor and as a student.

His dedication was such that he worked throughout his lengthy battle with cancer, teaching up to the final week of his life. The classroom was truly where he belonged. Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother has now left us. May she rest in peace. From the time he was a toddler, his gifts became evident. He could watch a movie and assume the character with no effort at all, acting out the parts of the movie or tv show that touched some part of him. As he grew, his talent for music started to emerge.
